Abstract:

Desaturase (FADS2) is the rate-limiting step in the polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) biosynthetic pathway. Very-long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) pools originate from the diet and endogenously from elongation and desaturation of their dietary precursors, -linolenic acid (n-3) and linoleic acid (n-6).
